About my Blog

i really don't like to cook. no, really. but i like to bake, and i like healthy, and i like to play at cooking especially when the boys are involved and i like to try to give the best to my kids... you know, without conforming to the 'budak mesti makan nasik baru kenyang' dictum. UNFORTUNATELY, the boys are kinda picky with what they eat. so it's always a fun, continuous, play-adventure-experiment thing. and along the way, i'm so absolutely thrilled if my play helps other people and their culinary journey with their kids, too. here's to PLAYING AT COOKING!

baby beef casserole

i had been itching to try this but have not (cause tak beli beli lagi the beef!) but anyway, one day i did, and did this and oh my, but it is heavenly! Little A had this with his pasta, and he gulped it down... and i didn't even modify it with salt and all! i'm definitely doing this again, but adult version. hehehe...

what you need

  • 20g butter

  • 1 leek, washed and sliced

  • 125g beef, cut into small cubes

  • some flour, just a little bit, to coat the beef

  • 100g mushrooms (i didn't put this, malas nak go to kedai)

  • 275g mix of sweet potato and potato, or just one or the other

  • 250ml water

what you do

  • melt the butter in a flameproof casserole dish. saute the leek until it gets soft.

  • roll the beef in the flour and add this to the leek. fry it a bit until it gets brown.

  • add the mushroom, if you're using. i didn't have any mushrooms so i added in one carrot instead. fry it up a bit.

  • add the sweet potatoes, potatoes, water. give it a little stir and bring to the boil.

  • when starting to boil, transfer to oven heated at 180C. you can cook it covered or not covered. this takes about an hour, or 1.5 hrs.

  • blend it up, if you're serving it to the baby.
